We are the future. We are the people who will shape the world we live in. But we are finding ourselves more isolated than ever. With our phones in hand, social media has us looking downward. We need to look up and outward from ourselves. We can do this by connecting with others in a more personal, meaningful way. By volunteering we can connect with others in our community to make it a better place. In doing so we can help ourselves by meeting people who may be outside our social media circle and develop real and worthwhile social skills. Find a need in your community and see what you can do to help as a volunteer. It is simple; look up and outward, find a need and help.

I am a student at Arizona State University Tempe and I am trying to make a difference in the lives of families in need. My brother, sister, and myself saw firsthand the tragedy of a childhood injury that could have been prevented by the use of a properly fitted bicycle helmet. I believe it is our duty to improve the lives of others and this is my attempt to do so. SafeCyclingForKids.org is about raising awareness for the need to keep kids safe while riding bicycles, skateboards and scooters by wearing properly fitted helmets. While new helmets can be expensive, family finances should not be a reason why the kids in these families should go without a quality helmet, which is why I have committed to raise as much money as possible to purchase and donate helmets to kids in need.

SafeCyclingForKids.org is a non profit charity which donates new children’s bicycle helmets to medical clinics and family resource centers for distribution to underprivileged children. These clinics and centers provide medical care and other assistance to the children of families in need in central Orange County, CA. Some of the facilities where donations to these children have been made include:
